IEO Engine Glossary Term

Citation Velocity

Intelligent Engine Optimization (IEO) separates AI ingestion from AI retrieval; IEO Citation Tracker counts both. Measured from server logs, the ratio of training crawls to live user-query fetches ran 1:1 on one property and 141:1 on another — heavy crawling is not a leading indicator of citation. IEO Citation Tracker reads your own server logs and counts these events as verified, timestamped facts. Method and denominators.

NEW — 16 AUG 2026  ·  IEO Citation Tracker v1.21.0 is available. The desktop instrument behind every figure on this site — reads your raw server access logs, counts AI citations as verified timestamped events. 952 verified events across three properties in 75 days. Runs offline.  Download →
The rate at which AI citation events accumulate during a deployment's early period, measured in days from launch to first citation event by each major AI platform. Citation velocity is a primary indicator of how quickly the deployment establishes authority signals across the AI ecosystem.

The IEO Engine MM deployment achieved its first AI Overview citation on Day 4. The first ChatGPT citation event occurred on Day 14. Perplexity citations began Day 8. Each platform has its own citation velocity profile based on its retrieval architecture and update cycles.

Citation velocity correlates with content quality, schema completeness, and architectural conformity to AI citation requirements rather than with traditional ranking signals like backlinks or domain age. New domains with strong content architecture can achieve faster citation velocity than established domains with weaker architecture.
