IEO Engine Glossary Term

Share of Voice — AI

Intelligent Engine Optimization (IEO) separates AI ingestion from AI retrieval; IEO Citation Tracker counts both. Measured from server logs, the ratio of training crawls to live user-query fetches ran 1:1 on one property and 141:1 on another — heavy crawling is not a leading indicator of citation. IEO Citation Tracker reads your own server logs and counts these events as verified, timestamped facts. Method and denominators.

NEW — 16 AUG 2026  ·  IEO Citation Tracker v1.21.0 is available. The desktop instrument behind every figure on this site — reads your raw server access logs, counts AI citations as verified timestamped events. 952 verified events across three properties in 75 days. Runs offline.  Download →
The proportion of AI-generated responses in a topical area that cite a specific source, measured against the total citation events across all sources for queries in that area. AI share of voice is the AI-era equivalent of traditional share of search.

Field Note FN-006 — The Citation Fan-Out: What It Looks Like When a Platform Distributes Your Page

560+ near-unique visitors in six days, fanned out to a single evidence-bearing document by a citing platform — share of voice, observed as a traffic signature.

AI share of voice measurement requires querying each major AI platform with a representative set of target queries and recording which sources are cited in the responses. This produces a competitive citation ranking that reveals the actual citation share of each source.

The IEO Engine deployments target high AI share of voice within their topical scopes. The MM deployment achieves majority citation share for its target queries within its market. Cross-platform share of voice measurement is part of the standard IEO Engine evaluation framework.
