IEO Engine Glossary Term

Content Architecture

The deliberate structural design of content for both human readability and AI citation extraction. Content architecture encompasses heading hierarchy, paragraph structure, schema markup, internal linking patterns, and the topical organization of pages within a domain.

Content architecture differs from content writing. Writing produces individual pages; architecture produces a domain-level structure where each page reinforces the others, where AI engines can navigate from any entry point to comprehensive coverage of related topics, and where the topical authority signal is built across the full corpus rather than relying on individual pages.

The IEO Engine methodology treats content architecture as the foundational engineering discipline. Without sound architecture, individual pages cannot achieve sustained AI citation regardless of content quality. With sound architecture, even modest content production produces compounding citation outcomes.
